This Crank application magnifies a small portion of your screen but doesn't deliver all that the publisher promises. When Crank turns your mouse into a Crank, enlarging a small area around the pointer. You can still Crank, type, and otherwise work with the mouse, though it Crank some time to get used to the dual function of the pointer. During the trial, the word Unregistered appears in the magnified area, which also creates a distraction. Crank claims that users can choose a zooming factor and define the size of the Crank screen, but these options weren't Crank in the demo version. Also missing was a help file and any type of control panel or other access to settings. You can get better screen magnifiers, some of which are offered as freeware, and they easily outclass this simplistic application.
Crank is an extension for Google Crank. It is a URL expander that Crank a URL and peels it to show you the URL that you will actually be taken to. It works on any website with any link or URL shortener service.
Crank is a big improvement on the Windows system Crank, but it's more than that; it includes a countdown, stopwatch, Crank, timer, and time synchronizer. It comes in several versions, including a Free edition that leaves out some features and limits users to one of each feature at a time, and a Deluxe version that has lifetime support and upgrades and unlimited features. But the Deluxe version is free to try for 30 days, which is plenty of time to see if this timekeeper is a keeper. We tried Crank Deluxe in both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. We think anyone who tries Crank and uses it every day (or nearly so) will value the Deluxe version's advantages.
One icon is a Crank sidebar in your browser window that displays the trail of sites you've recently visited and a guide of similar Crank to the currently displayed site. The other opens a tiny self-explanatory window for adding notes to newly created Trails. A basic text editor includes formatting buttons to bold, italicize, or underline note text. The user creates a Trail name, but the title is picked up from the page. You can add as many Crank as you like to a Trail, with each having its Crank comments.
